A Little Jazz History at 223 Dauphine 🎺
Did you know? Long before RideTHISbike opened its doors, this address was home to one of the few theaters in segregated New Orleans that welcomed Black audiences. Known first as the Greenwell and later as the Palace Theater, it hosted vaudeville acts and early jazz performances in a rare air-conditioned space.
Young Louis Armstrong (Satchmo himself) performed and spent time here, just steps from where our shop now stands. While only the old fire door and back wall remain, the spirit of those nights still echoes through Dauphine Street.
Next time you visit, ask us about Armstrong’s New Orleans and the hidden jazz landmarks you can explore on two wheels.
Parking Made Easy
- Garage on-site: We’re on the ground floor of a multi-story garage with entrances on Dauphine and Iberville.
- Second garage across the street: A similar multi-story garage sits above Deanie’s Seafood.
- On-street metered parking: Available in front of the shop and nearby. Spaces open up throughout the day.
- Sundays: Meters are typically free — arrive early and you can often park all day.
Always follow posted signage and garage instructions. Clearance and pricing vary by garage.
