About
The Trail
The Tammany Trace is a scenic, paved,
car free, 31-mile rails to trails
bike path and recreational corridor.
Shared by pedestrians, rollerbladers,
joggers and equestrians (on a parallel
horse trail), the trail winds through
five communities in Louisiana's St.
Tammany Parish (Covington, Abita Springs,
Mandeville, Lacombe, and Slidell).
The Tammany Trace is approximately
40 miles north of New Orleans (on
the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain);
it is easily accessible by car and
there are a variety of trailheads.
Bicycle rentals are available near
the trace at the UCM
Museum in Abita Springs
and the Kickstand Cafe in Mandeville.
More
information about tourist related
activities along and near the trail
are available from the St.
Tammany Parish Tourism & Convention
Commission. Another tourism site
that also offers bicycling related
info is NewOrleansNorth.com.
