New Orleans E-Bike Rebate Program Is Moving Forward
Bottom line: Consumers should begin preparing now. The City says registration is coming soon and schedules the first rebate round for late September 2026.
Recent information from program administrator APTIM indicates that the program could begin within the next couple of weeks and no later than the end of September, provided unresolved program details do not cause a delay. This is useful preparation guidance, but it is not an announced application date.
No specific application date has been announced, and the official application-document list has not been published. Residents should not purchase an e-bike expecting reimbursement because prior purchases do not qualify.
What applicants can prepare
The final City and APTIM instructions will control. Applicants may want to locate a government photo ID, proof of New Orleans residency, current email and telephone information, and, for the income-qualified rebate, proof of SNAP or Medicaid participation or other income records. The program may also request household-size and income information. This is a preparation list, not the official checklist.
Why model eligibility remains unsettled
Louisiana law defines an electric-assisted bicycle using requirements that include operable pedals, a motor rated below 750 watts, and minimum wheel sizes. The August 27 City Council safety presentation discussed legal e-bike definitions and a proposed 15 mph operating speed on shared paths, but it did not publish final rebate-model eligibility. A shared-path operating recommendation is separate from the assisted-speed limits defining Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes.
