Is Bay Saint Louis a good stop to explore by bicycle?
Yes. It is the most relaxed of the five outings. The depot gives you an interesting start, Old Town supplies galleries and coffee, and the beach makes an easy out-and-back ride that can be shortened whenever the train clock says it is time.
The depot is part of the visit
Do not rush away from the old L&N Depot at 1928 Depot Way. The Hancock County tourism office and a Mardi Gras costume exhibit are on the first floor. Upstairs, the Alice Moseley Folk Art Museum introduces a Mississippi painter whose colorful scenes mix humor, memory and everyday Southern life.
A Bay Saint Louis ride that feels like a day off
- Look around the depot before unfolding the bike.
- Roll into Old Town for galleries, small shops and a coffee stop.
- Continue to Beach Boulevard for a simple out-and-back beside the sand.
- If time, weather and confidence all line up, extend the ride over the Bay Bridge toward Pass Christian on the separated path. Treat this as a bonus, not the core itinerary.
The best part of this stop is its flexibility. A short visit still feels complete, while a longer layover leaves room to linger over art, lunch or the water.
A little local reality
Beach traffic, turning vehicles, railroad crossings, sun and wind can take the softness out of an otherwise easy ride. The bridge extension adds exposure and a climb. Check both directions on Amtrak's live timetable and return to the platform with a generous buffer.
