Take a Folding Bike on the Mardi Gras Service
Passengers cannot bring conventional, non-folding bicycles aboard the Mardi Gras Service. Only qualifying folding bicycles may be carried aboard, and they must meet Amtrak's carry-on size, weight and storage requirements. This makes a qualifying folding bicycle the practical bike option for travelers who want to combine rail and bicycle travel to reach and explore Gulf Coast destinations without flying or renting a car.
Amtrak has confirmed in writing that Brompton A Line and C Line folding bicycles meet its Carry-On Bike Policy limits.
- Maximum dimensions: 34 x 15 x 48 inches
- Maximum weight: 50 pounds
- A bag or case is not required.
- The bicycle must be folded before boarding.
The Mardi Gras Service does not offer checked bicycle service, so qualifying folding bicycles are carried onboard. They must be stored in the baggage storage areas at the ends of the coach cars. They may not be placed in overhead baggage racks or vestibules. The folded bicycle counts toward the passenger’s carry-on allowance.
Amtrak confirmed that this policy applies at every stop along the Mardi Gras Service. Passengers on this service do not need to carry a printed copy of the policy because conductors are familiar with the carry-on folding-bike rules.
