Bicycle Workshops Coming
Saturday, 7 December 2013 by Larry Lagarde
As a service to those that live and work in and around the French Quarter, RideTHISbike is launching a series of bicycle repair, maintenance and safety workshops.
Come to our convenient location in the French Quarter and get hands on experience from a master bicycle mechanic. Most classes are just an hour long and class sizes are limited to a max of 10 participants.
Following are a list of the classes being offered and additional details:
Flat Repair
We will go over the steps involved in changing your tube and patching a puncture.
Basic Maintenance
Learn to keep your bike happy with a couple easy maintenance steps.
Safe Riding
In this class we will go over the rules of the road and proper riding techniques. A group ride will commence after discussion.
Brake Adjustment
Learn how to properly adjust your brakes, replace pads and the different types of brakes available.
Derailleurs Adjustment
Learn to adjust your derailleur(s) to get the perfect shift. We will also discuss good shifting habits.
Wheel Hub Overhaul
Hands-on demonstrations of how to disassemble, grease and reassemble a hub's components.
Bottom Bracket Overhaul
Learn how to rebuild and adjust your bottom bracket as well as the different types which are available.
Headset Overhaul
In this class we will go over both threaded and threadless headsets and the proper way to adjust and rebuild them.
Wheel Truing
Learn how to get that pesky “whop” or wobble out of your wheel by adjusting the tension of your spokes.
Buying The Right Bike
Whether you're paying $25 for a bike on Craigslist or a $1000+ for a new bike from a shop, buying the right bike can be very tricky. This workshop will give you the knowledge to know which bike is best for you.
Classes start at $5 and last approximately 1 hour. During the class, discounts on relevant tools, supplies and accessories will be available should you wish to make a purchase.
To accommodate those that are getting off of work, most sessions are scheduled to start at 5:30pm but other time slots will be available. Each workshop is available on a first come, first serve basis. Due to the limited number of participants per workshop, we expect the workshops to fill quickly. To participate, call or email us today.
